Kiln Forged

Features

Everything between the idea and the build.

Kiln Forged is five engines working together. Here's what each one does, and the files you walk away with.

Circuit board engine

Picks the parts, draws the schematic and lays out a board that's ready to manufacture.

In developmentBuilt on KiCad

What it does

  • Chooses a microcontroller, sensors and power parts that fit your spec and budget
  • Draws the schematic and routes a 2- or 4-layer board
  • Runs design rule checks before you ever see the result

What you get

  • KiCad project
  • Gerber files for any board maker
  • Parts list (BOM) with prices
  • Board 3D model (STEP)
02 · Code

Firmware engine

Writes the code that runs on the board, generated straight from its pin layout.

In developmentBuilt on Arduino, PlatformIO, ESP-IDF

What it does

  • Reads the board's pin map so code and hardware always match
  • Uses well-known libraries you can read and change
  • Compiles the project to check it builds

What you get

  • Full firmware source
  • PlatformIO / Arduino project
  • Plain-language comments
03 · CAD

Enclosure engine

Designs a 3D-printable case around the finished board, with openings in the right places.

In developmentBuilt on build123d

What it does

  • Builds the case from the board's real 3D model
  • Cuts openings for ports, buttons, sensors and displays
  • Checks it prints without supports

What you get

  • STEP file (opens in SolidWorks, Fusion, Onshape)
  • STL files for printing
  • Suggested print settings
04 · 3D

Viewing engine

Shows the board inside its enclosure in 3D, so you can check the fit before you build anything.

In developmentBuilt on three.js

What it does

  • Orbit, zoom and explode the assembly
  • Hide the case to see the board
  • Checks clearances and port alignment

What you get

  • Interactive 3D assembly
  • Exploded view
  • Assembly steps
05 · Flow

Orchestrator

Runs every engine in order, passes data between them, and stops for your approval between stages.

In developmentBuilt on Kiln Forged

What it does

  • Turns your description into a clear spec first
  • Hands each engine exactly what it needs
  • Pauses at checkpoints so you stay in control

What you get

  • One project with every file in sync
  • A record of every decision and why

Built around you, not a black box

Reasoning at every step

In development

Each engine explains its choices as it makes them: why this chip, why this battery, why the case is this tall. You learn the craft while it designs.

You approve each stage

In development

The build pauses after the spec, the board, the firmware and the enclosure. Approve to continue, or describe a change and that stage is redone.

Opens in the tools you already use

In development

Boards come as KiCad projects. Enclosures come as STEP files that open in SolidWorks, Fusion and Onshape, so you can keep editing by hand.
